Sigma SLD DC Optical (OS) Lens with Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for Digital SLR Review

Hello: I dont want this to be too lengthy, boring & too techie, just the truth for real world usage.
I just received the lens today and I would like say that it is nice looking lens.
Build quality is very good…metal mount, matte finish, and high impact plastics.
*Overall length does not change so that means no dust or dirt could easily go in the barrel. With a zoom lens, I noticed that when zooming in and out, the lens is like a vacuum, sucking in dusts and dirt, if your not careful.
Here is a few things that I would have liked coming from this lens:
*2.8: nice but usage only on the wider end of 18mm. Not throughout the zoom range like the competitors.
*HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor): not as quiet or fast as I would like but it gets the job done. It’s more of really quiet clicks…not like my SWM.
*OS (Optical Stabilizer): not as good as I liked it to be.
*Lens Hood: a tad longer than competitors. It should block light strays though…
*I wished that it would have come with those fancy Sigma lens to keep it in :(

I mounted this lens on my D2H and D90. The lens is sharp but not sharp enough. I guess it depends on the size of the pixels too (D2H 4MP vs D90 12.3MP). Which will win??

Sigma SLD DC Optical (OS) Lens with Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for Digital SLR Overview

An upgrade to its predecessor, the F2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM is a lens dedicated to digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors offering a aperture and Sigma’s Optical Stabilization. Once again, Sigma has also engineered the built-in OS , an anti-shake system, for Sony and Pentax mount allowing the photographer to see a image in the viewfinder. The combination of the aperture of F2.8 and anti-shake makes capturing exceptional photos in low light achievable, and the wide angle is well suited for indoor photography. Two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and three lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. Designed with inner focusing and inner zooming systems, high image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The overall length of the lens does not change during focusing and zooming ensuring convenient handling. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches (30cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.1. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and high speed auto focus.

Good Quality Lens for the Money – M. Carey – Southwest Michigan
I bought this lens as an upgrade from the kit lens (18-55 IS) on my Rebel XS. I’m quite pleased; although, the lens is not as sharp as I’d expect at the larger apertures in low light. It’s still much better than the Canon kit. I’m just getting back into “digital” SLR photography from my “35mm” college days… so, I’m learning as I go. Overall, I got more than expected for the price tag (9). I figure this will be a great lens to learn with and later, I’ll upgrade as my skills progress. I’m an industrial designer, so I’m really sensitive about craftsmanship (build quality), use of materials, etc. I must say I am impressed overall with the lens in this regard. It’s much better than some reviews of Sigma lenses might suggest. Particularly, I liked the rubber grip details and the use of filled plastics for impact strength. Nice job Sigma! I was a little hesitant about 3rd party lenses… won’t be an issue going forward.

Good features for the price – Charles Kearney – Texas
I purchased this lens to replace the 18-50 kit lens on a T1i. I am pleased with the construction and performance of lens.

The auto focus motor is not as fast or quiet as the canon USM. It is faster and quieter then the kit lens. I would say it is in between the two.

The Optical stabilizer is good but under performs the kit lens. This negates the 2.8 aperture some when comparing it to the kit lens.

Unfortunately I will return this lens. The deciding factor is on my particular T1i the lens purchased does not auto focus correctly. At 2.8 aperture with its narrow depth of focus the auto focus can not be used. It is a real shame that Canon does not add the AF micro adjust feature to the T1i. I would keep this lens if I could calibrate the for it.

Fantastic – Alan Killebrew –
I have been shooting with this lens for just two days…just two days and I am already relieved of the pain of the kit lens. The f/2.8 is incredible…I can capture photos I have been dreaming to capture. This simply is a great purchase. If I had the money for the 800 dollar 17-70 Canon lens I may have bought it, but now that I have purchased this lens I am much happier to have spent 1/4th on this lens.

I recommend this lens to anyone and everyone for a substitute for the Kit 18-55mm lens.

Buy a case of the right camera, you should consider the following. The cameras are generally divided into two main categories: point-and-shoot and shared reflex (also known as a 'matter SLR). "Point-and-shoot camera is no camera, or film that is not an objective detachable .

Most point-and-shoots are compact and lightweight. Almost always zoom functions ( and ). If you are a beginner out, you probably alreadyhave a point and shoot camera. A reflection of the side who have the possibility of a removable or interchangeable. Moreover, usually offer much better chance of controlling the camera. You will be able to fire fully automatic and full manual and other ways, such as opening or shutter priority. The gap is the largest and probably the most important difference between a point and shoot a SLR, isThe picture quality is anyone can do.

While the point-and-shoot cameras have their , which are lightweight, easy to use and less expensive than a reflex. You can not use SLR cameras in terms of image quality. In fact, one of the largest SLR image sensor, a sensor provides a larger, larger pixel quality. These larger pixels produce a much higher quality. The higher the quality of images produced by aSLR because of its capacity expansion are applied in many markets, more than a point and shoot deductible. The compact can 8 or 10 megapixels, but still boast of their image sensors are smaller and this means that the pixels are smaller.

A point-and-shoot
Most professional photographers, a compact point-and-shoot camera, bring them, mostly. Some will even say that never leave home without it. I think we all agree that lower-quality photos made a point-and-shoot is better than no picture. If you have a compact package immediately point-and-shoot, you try to have at least five megapixels to 8, to obtain.

If your camera zoom, you should not show. Turns it off. zoom only a small part of a sensor too small. Search OK Even if your computer can not print well. Most cameras allow you to disable 's> Zoom. What you need to do, and ignore the fact that everything said by the seller, you have the zoom. A good camera should be at least 3 times the "" zoom. The best are at least 6 to 8 x zoom. This means that the objective of changing the focal length and always the full sensor, unlike the zoom. If the device does not have a good zoom, do not buy it. You lose your money.

The size of the LCD screen is also important. TheThe more the better. If your eyes are bad, is the quality of the LCD and the size of the utmost importance.

Stay established brands like and Canon. They make an excellent point-and-shoot cameras. Are usually on top of the line. Sony has some good point-and-shoots also, but the material is protected by copyright. This means that it is not good hardware and accessories mix other brands.

SLR
Most will say, a professional photographer Note that a preference in brands of cameras is largely dependent on how the car feels and handles, and the ease of use. Sensors of quality and pixels for a certain brand of camera in the highly competitive market of today. All professional cameras are robust, and many have a lot of water resistance. water in the group, it is possible, rain, fire and snow and never has a problem.

The main actors in the environment> SLR photography today are Canon, , Olympus, Canon and at the top. The big advantage to stick these brands is that they have been in this long. They are not liable (to the failure so that you and a group of devices that can not sell, upgrade or repair). And if you stick Canon or , you have a wide selection of accessories to choose from.
The rest goes to prizes. More expensive cameras giveshelf life and larger sensors. More expensive cameras and sensors for better image quality are even more at higher ISO less noise in shadows.

Choose the reflection for you
The only price you will find your destination, while the mark will help further narrow the search. and Canon are the main actors. Both cameras are great and really have a choice of lenses and accessories. Every brandeasy to sell, if you're ready to upgrade.

Beware of Sony. Sony cameras require special that everything is not out of Sony – the studio lights, flashes outside, so use Sony equipment is generally more difficult than it's worth it.

After more control over the images they take and the benefits of digital photography is very attractive to many people. Single-lens reflex (SLR) digital cameras can providedass

This is probably why I became so popular in recent years. these cameras, you can enjoy the pleasures of traditional photography, all the manuals and in full control of all functions and convenience of a digital . The has autofocus faster than conventional plants, so they do not have to worry about the record is not in a situation in a moment of concern, because you have no time to adjust everything manually. This makes particularly suitable for sports photography, in which things happen very quickly and you could cover all the action.

Another great advantage of SLRs is that the photographer can change the lenses. In this way you can experiment different models of different shots to take and see what fits best. You can also old lenses on some models of cameras. If you want detailed photos and shoot from a distance, you should use to invest a telephoto lens. > Digital SLR will also give you full control over zooming. This can not be achieved a normal digital . If you do too much a normal , trying to zoom, it is likely that the image is much noise. However, a good SLR , you can take sharp photos even at ISO.

If all this is not enough, you can further improve the performance of the SLR accessories. These include a telephoto lens, external flash and amany other things. The possibilities are more than you can imagine.

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Konica Minolta and Sony SLR Review

As a former Minolta Xi owner, I use a Sony Alpha 200 DSLR. The old Minolta D lenses work on it, and I always had good luck Minolta equipment. The A200 came the 18-70mm kit lens and needless to say that is ok but not even great. It is a light/plastic build not near the reach for an everyday lens. I fixed that a Minolta AF 24-105mm f3.5 D that is soooo nice. Still, that doesn’t reach out like I needed to shoot pictures of our grand kids at play. The answer was this Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Konica Minolta and Sony SLR . I found one for 9. I was skeptical because I just bought, tried, and sold a Tamron 28-200mm zoom. That lense was well built, but the autofocus would just hunt and hunt, it drove me crazy in one outing. Still the reviews for this other Tamron beckoned, and I thought what the heck, I’ll try it. The worst that could happen is I’ll hate it like the other Tamron, and sell it. BUT I LOVED IT INSTEAD. It is solidly built. It is light weight for it’s zoom range. It weighs less than my Minolta 70-210 f3.5 zoom. I took the Tamron 70-300 and went out and shot the kids on a dark overcast day on the trampoline at full 300mm opening and wowzers the pictures were awesome. I set the to “Sports” and fired away. I shot 30 pictures or there abouts. The lens stopped my grand daughter’s pony tail in mid flight. It was so sweet. Only had 2 blurry pictures, and they weren’t bad, in fact sometimes it’s cool to show motion. At 70-300mm that comparable 35mm reach is 105-450mm. There’s no lens creep, it is all solid and the balance my dslr is really nice. This baby will reach out and touch when the kids are on the playground. We’re grandparents raising an autistic 5 year old. He is really active, and my former didn’t stand a chance. I’d have to get too close and by then the great picture was gone and the snapshot was all that was left. This is the best buy in a long zoom I ever made. I don’t do reviews, but I just had to say Thanks Tamron, this zoom ROCKS!

Memories are always created. And when I say everywhere, I also believe that memories are created underwater – so the creation of a under the water.

A under the water is not only to capture underwater memories; some professional marine photographers also underwater cameras of their business. Even marine biologists and scientists use underwater cameras to study the marine life of capture and thus in a position for life and property of marine life. But I think it’s safe to assume that you, dear reader, are neither a marine scientist nor a professional photographer. As you are to me only a few pictures junkie who wants to capture underwater moments and just can not, without destroying them, as the cameras FIG.

Please hear me when I say that even waterproof cameras can not withstand underwater photography. To be waterproof to withstand the water at a certain level, which is the immersion in water to get the perfect shot, as expected throw out the window, a pick-up pass and run over it.

Well, if you’re really serious about the track a under the water, this crazy and funny moments underwater, I suggest you buy special .

There are rarely underwater cameras are electronic and can not withstand water and water pressure. The closest electronics has ever produced underwater cameras that produce underwater housing for cameras. These fields will turn the traditional into a under the water.

If you have pictures your under the water, you should avoid having a couple of things that are the best underwater images.

Note that you continue under the water, diffused light. This means that images to appear darker than the pictures you have, while in the country – is due to light scattering spectrum of water to produce red darker. To avoid this, use white balance come natural colors. Also included are underwater photos get more photos on the floor the same zoom effect. Remember to check the viewfinder of the under water to determine the angle of the image and size you want.

A water, their built-in flash will produce marine show phenomenon. This is a phenomenon where you get your picture as blurry and white particles floating on it to prevent this, you should use an external flash for your water .

Before your under the water, in water before testing for a few seconds, then leak through the wrapping. Make sure that no grain of sand or a piece of hair is clamped between the seal to ensure that water is not permeate the and thus wet your in the process. It is also advisable to put silica gel or two inside the housing of the under the water, not to disturb the functioning of the device. (Silica gel will keep the formation of moisture in your .)

Most underwater cameras equipped optional lenses. Do not be afraid, do not add to your kit lens underwater. Macro lenses can capture the small things, without being too close and startling your subject.

Also, remember, always wash of salt when you’ve used in salt water. If salts are not washed, they crystallize over time, causing a leakage of sand in your . To proceed in cases where the sand seems, if they are better washed water jets.
